Pre-treatment

  • Do NOT consume alcoholic beverages at least 48 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising)

  • You may take Arnica to help prevent bruising and swelling, start at least 1-4 days prior to injections.

  • Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood-thinning medications, if possible, for 48 hours before and after treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, and other NSAIDS have a blood-thinning effect and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.

  • Schedule your Botox appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event that you may be attending. Bruising is possible anytime a needle is involved.

  • You will need to reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash, cold sore, or blemish in the area.

  • If you have a history of cold sores, please let your provider know.

  • Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.

  • You are not a candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • Make sure to come to your appointment with a clean face free of makeup. The skin will be cleansed prior to treatment to prevent infection so heavy makeup may lengthen the process.

Post Treatment

What’s normal after this procedure?

Injections can cause small amounts of swelling, a temporary bump, redness, bruising, a mild to moderate headache, and sensations such as tingling or mild itching.  These effects are so common they can be considered a ‘normal’ part of the process.

How to protect your results and reduce side effects.

  • Avoid lying flat on your back or bending forward for extended periods for 4 hours following treatment.

  • Facial exercise in the area of treatment is recommended [frown/smile every 15 minutes for 1 hour after injections].

  • Avoid manipulation of the area for the first forty-eight (48) hours after injections. Very gentle pressure when washing the injected areas or applying creams using gentle strokes away from the eyes is ok.

  • Avoid alcohol and extreme heat i.e. sauna, steam, sun beds, very hot showers, strenuous exercise for 48 hours after injection.

  • Do not apply make up for approximately 4 hours after injections and wash your hands before touching your face.
